Hunan Corellia has successfully developed a 240-kilogram manned turbojet jet backpack, filling a significant gap in China's technology landscape. The backpack, proudly named "Made in Changsha," was unveiled in Star City.
Referred to as the "Iron Man in seconds," the Hunan Corellia manned flypack is turning dreams into reality. Zhou He, a heroic figure from the project, confidently stated, "We, as Chinese, will surpass our foreign counterparts and sprint towards a brighter future. We will win glory for our country with unwavering determination and without any regrets."
This smart jetpack is a wearable intelligent flight device powered by eight small fuel jet turbojet engines. It features a modular design and an electronically controlled flight control system. Users can operate and control the power output of the eight flight engines and the direction of vector nozzles using a control handle. It allows the wearer to take off vertically and fly freely, offering immense potential in high-altitude firefighting, emergency rescue operations, scientific research, extreme sports, and military applications.
With the rapid progression of technology, what was once confined to the realms of science fiction has now become a reality. The jetpack boasts impressive performance parameters, including a maximum flight altitude of 3,000 meters, a maximum speed of 120 km/h, a climb rate of 30 m/s, and an endurance time of up to 10 minutes.
When asked about the motivation behind developing a manned turbojet jet backpack, Zhou He, the driving force behind the project, shared his childhood passion for model airplanes and aviation sports. Inspired by a personal turbojet jet backpack he encountered during an international academic exchange conference in the United States in 2015, Zhou He decided to turn ordinary people into superheroes by realizing their dreams of flight. He discussed the idea with his partners in the Model Aircraft Association and other technical professionals, leveraging their technical expertise and extensive experience in small aero models and engines to embark on the challenging journey of independent research and development of a turbojet manned flight backpack.
Zhou He, along with the core team members, dedicated themselves to the research and development process. They faced numerous technical challenges, brainstorming solutions, sacrificing sleep, and forgoing time with their families during holidays. Zhou He expressed remorse for not spending enough time with his loved ones, emphasizing the rigorous nature of scientific pursuits. In terms of financing, each core team member contributed their own funds, with Zhou He personally selling three houses from his hometown to finance the project.
Zhou He also highlighted the valuable technical guidance provided by experts and professors from universities. The team's relentless dedication, fearlessness in the face of difficulties, and a "never give up" attitude enabled them to overcome obstacles and conduct various scientific research experiments. Through continuous improvement of small aviation generators and control systems, as well as test flights and personal experiences with the jetpack, the team accumulated invaluable engineering experience and mastered the core technologies required. The current version of the jetpack can carry a load capacity of 240 kg, reach a flight altitude of 3,000 meters, achieve a climb speed of 30 meters per second, and more.
Zhou He proudly shared that the team consists of exceptional scientific research talents, including Dr. Zhang Daibing, an overall technical expert and former deputy director of the Institute of Unmanned Aerial Systems at the National University of Defense Technology. Other notable members include Dr. Wang Shaoli, an expert in structural mechanics and China's special robots and mechanical bones, Mr. Li Leyi, the chief technician and the first pilot of the Hunan turbojet model airplane movement, and Ms. Cao Hong, the CFO of Business Administration and a dedicated mother of two who actively participated in test flights and aspires to become the world's first female jetpack pilot.
As the team's flagship product, the jetpack will be followed by further research and development cooperation with domestic colleges and universities, targeting the international UAV and cruise missile markets. The company aims to transform into a military-civilian integration enterprise and an export-oriented company. They have already received several foreign orders, ready to be exported as kits. Additionally, relevant domestic units, military academies, advertising companies, flight show teams, and extreme enthusiasts have expressed interest in purchasing the jetpack. The project has truly become an international sensation, an "explosive product" in the world of fashion and the internet, poised to enter an expansive and lucrative market.
